Contract Solutions Architect – NHS / Central Government Experience is Essential

Rate: £TBC ASAP but it will be Inside IR35
Location: Primarily remote with occasional need in London
Duration: Until January (initially)

Role Overview

We’re seeking an experienced Solutions Architect to provide architectural leadership across high-profile NHS programmes. You’ll design and assure end-to-end solutions that balance technical feasibility, user needs, and organisational priorities.

This role demands someone comfortable operating across strategy and delivery — shaping architectural direction, engaging with senior stakeholders, and guiding multi-disciplinary teams to deliver secure, scalable, and sustainable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define, own, and communicate solution architectures for complex NHS and central government programmes

  • Align solution designs with enterprise architecture, strategic goals, and regulatory standards

  • Work closely with product, engineering, data, and security teams to ensure solutions are practical, scalable, and secure

  • Support programme delivery by breaking down complex requirements into actionable solution designs

  • Provide technical assurance for solutions delivered by suppliers and internal teams

  • Champion interoperability, open standards, and reuse of common platforms and services

  • Produce and maintain high-quality architecture artefacts (diagrams, patterns, decision logs)

  • Communicate architectural decisions and trade-offs clearly to senior stakeholders and delivery teams

Required Experience

  • 6–8+ years in solution architecture roles, ideally with NHS or central government programme experience

  • Proven ability to design and deliver end-to-end solutions in large, complex environments

  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, hybrid), including integration and migration patterns

  • Solid understanding of data platforms, APIs, microservices, and interoperability frameworks

  • Familiarity with security and compliance standards (NHS DSPT, GDPR, NCSC principles, ISO27001)

  • Experience working with enterprise architecture frameworks (TOGAF, ArchiMate, Zachman)

  • Skilled in balancing strategic architectural direction with hands-on delivery guidance

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills – able to bridge technical and non-technical audiences

  • Experience working with suppliers and delivery partners to ensure architectural integrity

  • Familiarity with delivery and documentation tools (e.g. Jira, Confluence, modelling tools)
