📍 Location: Primarily remote with occasional travel to London
⏳ Duration: Until January (initially)
We’re seeking a highly skilled AWS-focused Solutions Architect to provide hands-on technical and architectural leadership across high-profile NHS and central government programmes. You’ll be responsible for designing and assuring robust, secure, and scalable solutions on AWS — working across cloud migration, integration, data platforms, and enterprise-wide services.
This role requires a balance of strategic vision and technical depth: you’ll shape architectural direction, engage senior stakeholders, and provide direct technical guidance to delivery teams.
Define, own, and communicate AWS-centric solution architectures for complex NHS and central government programmes.
Design cloud-native solutions using AWS services (EC2, ECS/EKS, S3, Lambda, RDS, API Gateway, CloudFormation, IAM, CloudWatch, etc.).
Lead on cloud migration, integration, and modernisation patterns within complex enterprise environments.
Work closely with engineering, data, security, and product teams to ensure solutions are scalable, cost-effective, and secure.
Provide technical assurance for solutions delivered by internal teams and suppliers, ensuring alignment with AWS best practices and Well-Architected principles.
Champion interoperability, open standards, and reusability of cloud services.
Produce and maintain high-quality architecture artefacts (solution diagrams, decision logs, reference architectures).
Communicate technical decisions, trade-offs, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
6–8+ years’ experience as a Solutions Architect (or Technical Architect), ideally with NHS or central government programme exposure.
Deep hands-on AWS expertise across multiple services and domains (compute, storage, networking, security, monitoring, automation).
Proven experience delivering end-to-end cloud solutions in complex, regulated environments.
Strong understanding of cloud security and compliance standards (NHS DSPT, GDPR, NCSC principles, ISO27001).
Experience with APIs, microservices, event-driven architectures, and data platforms.
Skilled in balancing strategic architectural leadership with hands-on delivery guidance.
Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to bridge technical and business audiences.
Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks (TOGAF, ArchiMate) and delivery tools (Jira, Confluence, modelling tools).
